Open Day -Find out about Rotary in Kinver

By John Pittwood - Posted on 18 March 2016

The Rotary Club of Kinver is to hold an open event to let interested parties know exactly what the club – and the Rotary movement as a whole – is all about. During the club’s 30-year history it has become an established part of village life, especially its Santa sleigh which tours the entire village together with Enville and parts of Wollaston and Wall Heath, but members are keen to inform more people of the other many and varied activities that take place throughout the year. Membership secretary Tom Bryson says: “Residents of Kinver and the surrounding areas are well aware of “The Rotary” but don’t really appreciate what the club does on a week-by-week basis and the enjoyment its members get from the extremely diverse programme that is undertaken. “While the Kinver Club is part of an international organisation with more than 1.2 million members in every democratic country across the world, it is essentially a village group that exists for the pleasure it gives to the members while producing benefits to the people locally and disadvantaged people in other parts of the world.” The open day, to be held at the KCSA Edward Marsh Centre on Saturday May 14 from 10.00 a.m. until 1.30 p.m. will demonstrate the ways in which members support local schools; the elderly; village charities, social groups and voluntary organisations; together with its involvement in projects nationally and internationally. “We want to demonstrate the enjoyment that can be gained by helping others through memberships of one of the most thriving Rotary clubs in the West Midlands,” Tom adds. “The Rotary motto is ‘Service Before Self’ – we believe we do serve but not at the expense of ourselves. We enjoy ourselves!”
