KINVER ROTARY CLUB IN QUEST TO EXTEND WRITING AND PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITIONS

By John Pittwood - Posted on 15 September 2015

Pupils at three local schools are to be given the opportunity to test their writing skills against youngsters from across the Midlands.

The Rotary Club of Kinver is in talks with staff at St. James School, Wollaston; The Ridge,  Wollaston; and Brindley Heath Junior School in Kinver to enrol youngsters in an annual writing competition organised by Rotary district 1060 which stretches from Rugby in the east to Stourport in the west and from Tamworth in Staffs to Southam in the south of Warwickshire.

Children at The Ridge and  Brindley Heath will also be offered the opportunity to join their opposite numbers at St James who already take part in a photographic competition across the district.

During the coming weeks, members of the Kinver club’s Youth Services committee will be discussing with school staff these  opportunities that Rotary can offer in addition to those already in place in local schools, including Kinver High School where there is a potential for students to enter Rotary’s Young Citizens award.  The school is already  involved in the writing and photographic competitions and regularly supports the club’s annual senior citizens party.

Furthermore the club is hoping to extend its issue of dictionaries to upper school leavers from Brierley Hill Primary School.

Youth Services committee chairman, Graham Smith, says: “We as a club have long standing links with some of the local schools – we are now seeking to extend that liaison as part of the commitment of Rotary across the world to engage with the community supporting youngsters in as many ways as possible.”
